Active Schools Week starts 24th February

imgp4770The Magh Ene Active School Committee are pleased to announce the following programme of activities due to take place shortly after mid- term. Active school week Monday 24th February -Friday 28th Feb. Moving Monday Keepy uppies and soccer blitz activities Week kicks off with a major highlight at 2pm. with a Transition Year introductory cycle session. This session is part of our students preparation for the Cycle Against Suicide initiative. Session includes: Bicycle safety, care and maintenance and an introductory road session with Mr. Tony Cummins of Donegal Bay Cycling Club. Take the challenge Tuesday Fitness challenge and 'Cube' challenge activities Walking Wednesday. Encouraging Active Travel. Chinese Keepy Uppies and Basketball Blitz activities Top The Teacher Thursday! Penalty shoot out and Zumba/Dance activities with and against the Teachers! Teacher/student Football Match Thursday also involves our TY Students in their Gaelic Coaching module whereby they are organising a 1st Year Girls Gaelic Blitz and coaching session. 5k Friday The Finale Basketball shoot out and Table Tennis/ Badminton activities Cube challenge FinaleHighlight and Finale on Friday is the Cara 5k involving students/ teachers and parents to complete the Active school week of activities. For some of our students though the 10k Cara Run event will be their finale, Saturday March 1st. There will also be a variety of activities within year groups focusing on Health and Activity, such as soccer competitions, art and poetry competitions and health/fitness/ nutrition quizzes. Physical Fitness is also the focus of the Healthy Schools Group this year.imgp4759 The Active School Committee for Magh Ene College will be endeavouring to find 'The Most Active Class'. Magh Ene College was ranked in sixth place in the country in the Aviva Fitness Challenge 2012-2013 last year. We are hoping that all our activities and training will help in improving our involvement and results in the Aviva Fitness Challenge 2014, with students undergoing their second fitness test in the challenge, again in March this year!
