For someone of such a young age, first Year student Pauric O’Reilly has achieved a really impressive record in the gymnastics arena. Pauric took up gymnastics four and a half years ago in January 2013. His first competition was in the Community Games representing Leitrim, from there he went on to compete at national level. Pauric who currently competes at level 5 was asked to join the Irish Training squad for acrobatics last March. Pauric has won an amazing 7 All Ireland gold medals for tumbling and acrobatics and 6 golds for regional, 1 ulster medal, beginner of the year in club and tumbler of the year.
Pauric is a member of the Dy Nano Gymnastic Club in Collooney Co. Sligo where he trains up to 4 times a week in acrobatics and tumbling. Each session lasts 2-3 hours sessions and Pauric explained that they do up to an hour of conditioning per session as this is very important to gain strength and flexibility. Pauric does most of the moves in the air off his gym partner. He really loves doing acrobatics, especially the straight back off hands.
His next competition is on this weekend where he has to do two routines, one per day, dynamic on Saturday and balance on Sunday in the new National indoor arena in Dublin. We wish Pauric well this weekend and look forward to hearing of his future successes!!
