Sixth class students from our feeder primary schools attended the Magh Ene College Open Day on Thursday, 25th January, 2018. The students had the opportunity to take part in activities from many of the different subject department areas – art, PE, drama, home economics, science, MTM (materials technology metal) and MTW (materials technology wood) to name a few.
Later that night, parents were welcome to attend our annual Open Night. Our Head Boy Saul Gavigan and Head Girl Eimear Colreavy gave the parents present an account of their experiences over the past five and a half years in Magh Ene College – not only from an academic point of view and the wide range of subject choices that are offer but also the large variety of extra-curricular activities that students may get involved in. They both recounted how they were involved in school musicals over the years and how this had improved their personal confidence hugely. Other activities that they enjoyed included the school’s book and film club, getting involved in the many different sports clubs (gaelic football, rugby and basketball for both girls and boys) and BT Young Scientist and Technology projects among others. From a pastoral care view, Eimear described how as both a first year student and later as a fifth year student she had benefitted from the First year – Fifth year mentoring programme that the school runs each year for its incoming first years. Magh Ene College is very proud of all our students and their personal achievements while in our care and we have two wonderful ambassadors for the school in both Saul and Eimear. We look forward to welcoming our new cohort of first-year students in September 2018 and working with them and their parents.
